Ultrasonic Velocity and Apparent Molar Compressibility of Trichloroacetic Acid in Aqueous Ethanol

Abstract

Nicotinamide was condensed with an aromatic aldehyde to give nicotinamido aryl methylol (I), which on treatment with β-napthol/phthalimide afforded α-(nicotinamido-methyl-aryl)-β-napthol/nicotinamido-aryl-methyl phthalimide (II). Interaction of (II) with hydroquinone or catechol in the presence of iodine resulted in quaternary ammonium iodies (III) in the yields ranging from 50–60%. These compounds were evaluated for their antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
